Typically known as the "City in Forest", Guiyang is the capital of Guizhou Province, the People's Republic of China. Guiyang is located in central Guizhou province, situated at the east of Yungui Plateau of China, and on the north bank of the Nanming River - a branch of Wujiang River. The city has an elevation of about 1,100 meters. Guiyang is typically characterized as having a subtropical monsoon climate; four seasons not so clearly seen; without cold winter and hot summer; temperate and humid. Guiyang is home to more than 30 minority ethnic groups including Miao, Buyi, Dong and Hui, etc. Consequently the city abounds with unique folk culture and traditions that give rise to many colorful ethnic minority activities.
